RED FLAGS

When to call your veterinarian

Your veterinarian is your pet’s health care hero, there to help when something seems wrong.
Knowing the red flags helps you notice problems early, before your pet gets really sick.
When you spot these signs and call your vet, you’re working together to keep your pet safe and healthy.

  • If your pet is coughing a lot, breathing fast, or their chest or belly is moving hard with each breath, they need a vet right away. Breathing problems can become life-threatening quickly.Item description

  • If your pet suddenly won’t get up or seems too weak to move, it could be a sign of bleeding, infection, or heart trouble. They need emergency care.

  • If your pet is crying, shaking, hiding, or won’t move, they might be in a lot of pain. Pain means something is wrong, like an injury or illness. A vet can find the cause and give medicine or treatment to help them feel better.

  • If your pet suddenly can’t move their legs, it’s a serious emergency. It could be from a back or nerve injury. A vet needs to see them right away to help prevent permanent damage and pain.

  • If your pet keeps throwing up or having diarrhea, they can get dehydrated and very sick. This might mean something serious, like an infection or eating something poisonous. A vet can find out what’s wrong and help your pet feel better fast.
